A Christmas Tree made of shoeboxes

As customary in previous years, the Departamento de Actividades Complementarias y Extraescolares at school has organized another Christmas contest. For this occasion, our students have been requested to decorate a shoebox, green outside and inside with Christmas ornaments mainly made by themselves.
Fourteen of my high school students took part in this activity. I have to admit that all of them did a great job, despite being so busy with their exams. On 22 December, the name of the winner was announced and my student of 1ºBC, Marina Suárez Blázquez, received the First Prize.

MY CONGRATULATIONS TO MARINA!!!!

AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR TAKING PART!!!

HALLOWEEN 2017

As in previous years, on October 31 the English Department organized a contest to celebrate Halloween. Students were asked to design tombstones. More than 40 were placed in a garden located in front of the school. The result was an amazing but also terrifying graveyard. I encouraged my students to take part in this activity and dress in black that day.

Thanks to all the students who took part in this celebration because without them, we haven't been able to get the award for the best Halloween decorated school in Don Benito.

Best Students (School Year 2016/17)

As it has become usual since 2013, during the whole school year my students get stickers when they get a  mark between 9 and 10. Yesterday morning a prize-winning ceremony was held during the English lesson. Some awards, diplomas and medals in recognition of their hard work were given to three students:

Marina Gallardo Chamizo: 18 stickers

Juan Romero Torres: 15 stickers

Lucía Banda Nieto-Guerrero: 14 stickers

Besides, students were given this gift because they have been successfully completed Secondary School and next year they will start a new stage in their education: BACHILLERATO.

Also because I have been their English teacher for two school years and shared with them many lessons, activities, school trips and so on; from the very beginning, I started to prepare a Class Photograph of the group with some teachers as a present for all of them.

Once again, thanks for these two great years and for the lovely presents given to me:

THE BIG CHALLENGE 2017

On June 7th, a new prize-giving ceremony took place at school. Diplomas and prizes were given to the students who have taken part in the contest The Big Challenge 2017. It was attended by some teachers of the English Department and the Bilingual Section.
Gloria Rodríguez, the Chief of the English Department, gave a voucher of 20€ to those students who got the best positions at each level of ESO.

Thanks my 4ºESO students for having taken part in this contest for four years. Congrats to the three best ones and, particularly, to Daniel González Aparicio, who got the first position in Badajoz.

POTLUCK 2017

Another potluck has been held at school today. But this time, it was just a little bit sad because our big Des is leaving us in June.
This party organized in his honor has been used to tell him how much all of us appreciate him, not only for his work but also for his way of being.
Everybody will miss you a lot. Remember that here, at Cuatro Caminos High School, YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!!!
All the cards on the photocall were made by the students using the pics of Des sent by his parents.

Connecting Schools: Clearwater Elementary & IES Cuatro Caminos

Last Friday, 7th April, a very special person for our English Assistant, Des, visited us. My students have been exchanging letters with the school where James McCann works since last school year.  It was a really pleasure for all my students and for me to listen to James giving information about himself, his brother, school life, food, the current political situation in his country and many other topics of interest to all of us.

THANK YOU BOTH, JAMES & DES, FOR SHARING
THIS TIME TOGETHER !!!

School Day of Non-violence and Peace

The International Day of Peace is annually held on September 21 to recognize the efforts of individuals, organizations and governments to end conflict and promote peace.  People around the world take part in various activities and organize events centered on the theme “PEACE”. In Spain, the School Day of Non-violence and Peace is celebrated on January 30.
The motto of this day is:
“Universal love, non-violence and peace.
Universal love is better than selfishness,
non-violence is better than violence
and peace is better than war”.

In the pictures below you can see a big Dove of Peace, full of photos taken by some students and teachers during the month of January. There are pictures of almost all members of our Educational Community. Also students sitting on the floor forming a peace symbol.
